The accreditation and regulation of international schools is a complex, evolving and sometimes controversial process. It also varies considerably from country to country.

First, there is the issue of defining an “international school”. The majority – and the segment that has driven strong recent growth in the industry – are English-language. Yet neither the UK nor US governments have formal oversight of schools that term themselves “British” or “American” or even a uniform set of standards to benchmark such schools.
