Weaker banks push shares lower in London

Growing fears of another banking crisis on Thursday led the FTSE 100 to a seventh straight decline, its longest losing streak in four years.

HSBC was among the casualties. Its market value has dropped by more than £11bn since Wednesday, when Morgan Stanley published a note predicting the bank would halve its 2009 dividend and potentially raise $20bn of capital.
