Obama says China not a threat

America will not try to contain a rising China, Barack Obama, the US president, told an audience in Japan on Saturday on the eve of his first visit to the world’s most populous nation.

Speaking during the first leg of his inaugural visit to Asia , which will include stops in Singapore, Shanghai, Beijing, and Seoul, Mr Obama said the US did not view China as a threat.
