US secretary of state Hillary Clinton’s visit to Pakistan was a striking and impressive display of public diplomacy. Rarely has a visiting American official, much less a secretary of state, reached out to speak directly to such a wide cross-section of Pakistanis.
Ms Clinton’s energetic three-day trip aimed to reset the tone of an increasingly troubled bilateral relationship. How far this diplomatic mission to “clear the air” helps to narrow the trust gap between the two countries is another matter.
