UK swine flu preparations criticised

A full-blown swine flu pandemic would put hospitals under “extraordinary pressure”, a Lords report has warned, raising questions about how intensive care units will be able to cope with a deluge of patients.

Lord Sutherland, chairman of the Lords science and technology committee, praised the government for stockpiling supplies of anti-viral drugs for the H1N1 flu strain but said there were other areas “where we appear to be under-prepared”.
