Irish bad bank faces difficult birth pains

Ireland’s proposal to establish a “bad bank” to take on troublesome loans from commercial banks has given the country’s battered image a fillip.

The plan, which aims to cleanse the banking sector and help kick start the economy, has been well received by international markets, with bank shares rallying in recent weeks and the spread on Irish sovereign debt narrowing.
