Ministers scold Blair and Brown supporters for 'harmful' briefings

Frustration in the Labour party about the damaging effect of tensions between Tony Blair and Gordon Brown boiled over at the most senior level yesterday, with cabinet ministers scolding the rivals' supporters for briefing against each other.

The chancellor was expecting yesterday to be asked to put on a show of unity with the prime minister on Wednesday when Labour launches its campaign for the May local elections.
