Call for better service contract management

The central government could save up to £300m ($438m) a year if it better managed the £12bn its spends annually on service contracts, Parliament’s public spending watchdog said on Monday.

Even where the services supplied are sub-standard, almost 40 per cent of managers choose not to apply financial penalties stipulated in the contracts, the Commons public accounts committee said.
