Oleg Novachuk, chief executive of Kazakhmys, said on Thursday he was confident the copper mining group could convince its rival Eurasian Natural Resources Corporation that the two could co-operate to their mutual benefit.

Mr Novachuk made the remark as he announced a 25 per cent fall in half year pre-tax profits at Kazakhmys as soaring costs suppressed margins.
