Beijing finally answers shake-up call

After more than three years of fierce internal debate about how to reorganise their Rmb728bn ($105bn) telecoms sector, China’s reclusive industry regulators have finally made a call.

In a statement, the government unveiled the long-awaited restructuring of China’s four big operators and a pair of also-rans into three big telecoms operators intended to have “national network resources and relatively comparable strength and scale”.
