Strange fortunes of China’s super-rich

The explosion of China’s economy in the past two decades has produced a boom in private wealth and given rise to a new class of super-rich.

When the Hurun Report published the country’s first rich list in 1999, a personal fortune of just $6m was required to make the top 50. By the most recent list, last year, the minimum requirement was $100m and there were 500 people on it.
