Kenyan MP’s murder fuels violence

The murder of an opposition lawmaker unleashed fresh rioting in Kenya on Tuesday as post-election violence appeared in danger of spiralling out of control.

Formal mediation between the government and the opposition also began under the auspices of Kofi Annan, the former United Nations secretary-general, but was overshadowed by the violence, which has taken on a momentum of its own.
