F1 rift over budget cap

Formula One’s attempt to steer through the recession by reforming itself to cut costs hit a major obstacle after a dangerous rift opened up on Tuesday night between the teams and the governing body.

The F1 teams’ association (FOTA) reacted badly to a set of rules voted through yesterday by the Federation Internationale de L’Automobile’s world council to introduce a budget cap of £30m a season from next year.
