Olympic torch reaches Hong Kong

Tens of thousands of flag-waving supporters in red T-shirts welcomed the Olympic torch into Hong Kong and turned the relay’s first leg on Chinese soil into a patriotic pageant.

The parade through the former British colony took place as Tibet’s government-in-exile said senior envoys for the Dalai Lama would arrive in Beijing on Saturday for what the Tibetan side has called “informal talks” with Chinese officials.
