Former Argentine president Néstor Kirchner has finally confirmed he will run for a seat in congress in legislative elections next month after warning that the country “will explode” if his wife’s government loses its congressional majority.
Mr Kirchner confirmed just before Saturday’s midnight deadline that he would seek to shore up support for his wife and successor, Cristina Fernández, by heading the list of government candidates for the province of Buenos Aires, their main power base.
