Taiwan?s opposition struggled on Sunday to find a way to benefit from the crisis engulfing the island?s president, Chen Shui-bian, with Kuomintang chairman Ma Ying-jeou coming under particular pressure for his relatively cautious stance.

Mr Ma said as calls mounted for him to lead an effort to topple Mr Chen over corruption allegations involving the president?s family and government.
