Banks warn FSA over US-style fines

The banking industry has warned the financial regulator against adopting a more "aggressive" US style of enforcement by increasing fines for wrong-doers.

The British Bankers' Association has written to the Financial Services Authority, which is reviewing its enforcement procedures. The review was prompted by criticism the FSA received over the way it handled the mis-selling case against Legal & General, the life assurer.
