Gordon Brown is to use an expert study by the British scientist Prof Ed Gallagher to warn other world leaders that a rush to increase biofuel use could exacerbate rising food prices.

Mr Brown, in Japan for the G8 summit of wealthy industrial nations, commissioned Prof Gallagher to examine the impact of biofuels on food prices and on the environment generally.
