Small cars in short supply in the UK

Britain’s car dealers are struggling to cope with a shortage in supply of small cars across Europe, according to one of the UK’s leading auto retailers.

Production cutbacks by financially distressed manufacturers and a boom in demand caused by government-subsidised scrapping schemes have combined to cause a bottleneck in supplies in the small car segment, according to Robert Forrester, chief executive of Vertu, the UK’s ninth-biggest dealer.
