At least 59 were killed and more than 200 injured after a fire ripped through a popular nightclub in the Thai capital Bangkok as revellers celebrated the new year.

Television footage showed injured Thais and foreigners fleeing the flaming shell of the upmarket Santika nightclub in the central Thong Lor district, a popular residential area among Bangkok's large expatriate community.
