Tories want to see figures on spending

George Osborne, the shadow chancellor, claimed on Tuesday that he was being denied access to key data on government spending.

Mr Osborne, who has accused Gordon Brown of seeking to hide the true state of the public finances, said he wanted to see a government database showing detailed spending in 12,000 key areas. The information was vital to allow his party to prepare for government.
