Foreign-born workers are proving more successful at holding on to their jobs in the recession than their British-born counterparts, according to Financial Times research.
The findings came as a spate of wildcat strikes erupted on Tuesday on sites around the country over the hiring of overseas labour. The development will alarm mainstream politicians fearful of losing ground to the anti-immigrant British National party and the eurosceptic UK Independence party in elections for the European parliament on June 4.
