Battlefield fears after human rights judgment

A landmark court judgment extending human rights legislation to the battlefield may compromise commanders’ effectiveness in the most dangerous, fast-moving situations, the Ministry of Defence has warned.

The Court of Appeal’s ruling that the MoD has a legal duty to protect all members of the armed services serving abroad could trigger a flood of compensation claims from bereaved families.
