Samsung Electronics drops bid for SanDisk

Samsung Electronics, the world’s second-largest memory chipmaker, on Wednesday withdrew its $5.85bn takeover offer for SanDisk, citing the US flash memory card maker’s declining value amid the deepening industry downturn.

The decision came after stalled negotiations over the past six months to buy SanDisk at $26 a share. The California-based company last month rejected the unsolicited bid, saying it was too low.
