The hydrocarbon-rich Arab Gulf may be better known for the overseas acquisitions of oil-financed investment funds, but the most notable recent deal was a reversal of the trend.
In late August, US internet giant Yahoo bought Maktoob, the largest Arabic-language web portal, which was founded in Jordan but is now based in the Gulf’s commercial entrepot of Dubai. The terms were not publicly disclosed, but experts valued the acquisition at more than $75m.
