Pressure on the UK’s big five public transport operators intensified after figures from FirstGroup showed that revenue growth from bus ticket sales is slowing.

Bus services had been considered more resilient during the recession but FirstGroup said on Thursday that passenger revenue growth in the UK had fallen to 4.2 per cent in the three months to June 30, down from 7.4 per cent in the year to March.
