Global property derivatives become shelter

Trading on the global commercial property derivatives markets rose by 42 per cent in the second quarter compared with the same period last year, boosted by activity in the increasingly mature UK sector.

Investors have been turning to the derivatives market to help hedge exposure to falling property prices and establish positions on potentially low future prices in the hope the market slump has gone too far.
