The murder of Egypt’s envoy to Iraq on Thursday and the attempted shooting of Pakistani and Bahraini diplomats two days earlier has prompted Pakistan to withdraw its ambassador and raised fears of a diplomatic exodus.

The Iraqi government and its US backers will be keen to prevent any hint of a flight of diplomatic staff from the Iraqi capital.
