Sears suffers dismal quarter of poor sales

Sears Holdings, the US retailing group led by billionaire investor Eddie Lampert, reported another set of dismal quarterly earnings on Thursday, unveiling a $56m loss as sales slumped and expenses increased.

The company blamed “increasing competition” from rivals, as well as general economic factors, as total revenues fell 5 per cent from a year ago to $11.1bn.
