CFTC chief seeks to lift veil over derivatives trade

Dealers in over-the-counter derivatives should face new capital requirements and position limits, according to Gary Gensler, chairman of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission.

Mr Gensler told a Senate hearing on Thursday that as part of promised Obama administration reforms dealers needed to adopt more conservative capital levels and that standardised contracts should be forced on to exchanges in an attempt to increase transparency of a traditionally opaque sector of the financial markets.
