Algerian companies warn on import curbs

ALGIERS, Aug 4 - Algerian importers have warned they could be driven out of business by tough new government restrictions, the latest in a series of measures that some investors say are weakening market reforms.

Oil and gas producer Algeria is under pressure to rein in imports after the slump in world crude prices slashed the value of its exports. The country of 35m people depends heavily on imports of goods from cars to food.
