Jaguar shelves plan for unified aluminium body

Jaguar, the lossmaking luxury carmaker, has shelved plans to build its main cars from a unified aluminium "architecture" because of financial constraints imposed by Ford Motor, its US owner.

Lewis Booth, head of Ford's London-based stable of luxury brands, said the company had delayed the plan, which was due to start with the replacement for the new S-Type executive saloon.
