Wall Street boosted by GMAC bailout

A fresh bail-out for General Motors gave Wall Street stocks a boost on Tuesday towards the end of what is set to be their worst year since the Depression.

Car sector stocks were snapped up after the US Treasury unveiled plans to provide up to $6bn in aid for GMAC, General Motors’ financing arm, which is to become a bank holding company.
