Baghdad to extend arms for cash plan across Iraq

Iraq's government will launch a nationwide arms-collection drive next week, the country's security minister said yesterday, with the goal of clearing weapons off Iraq's streets in advance of planned January elections.

The initiative is largely the result of an experimental "arms for cash" handover in the Baghdad suburb of Sadr City, which has been largely successful.
