Brown’s homes pledge queried

Gordon Brown’s promise of 110,000 new affordable homes over the next two years – the centrepiece of Labour’s relaunch last week – is under question after it emerged that the figure is far short of a longstanding government pledge.

At the time of the comprehensive spending review in 2007, Yvette Cooper, then housing minister, promised to build 70,000 affordable homes each year by 2010.
