Pelosi backs Murtha as House leader

Nancy Pelosi, incoming Democratic Speaker of the House, came under fire from an ethics watchdog on Monday following her endorsement of John Murtha to the number two leadership post in the new Congress.

Melanie Sloan, a former prosecutor who heads Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (Crew), said Mrs Pelosi’s support of the Pennsylvania Democrat did not bode well for the future Speaker’s commitment to enacting ethics legislation.
