Tension on rise in Pakistan’s Swat valley

Taliban fighters in northern Pakistan’s Swat valley appeared to be gearing for a fight on Monday despite government moves to meet their movement’s demands.

Overnight reports indicated Taliban militants had openly defied a provincial curfew in some areas. A senior government official said that groups of armed fighters were roaming the streets of Mingora, Swat’s main city, and taking up rooftop positions.
