Ministers appear to have headed off the threat of a government defeat in Wednesday’s crucial vote on new planning laws by promising safeguards to rebel MPs.
Clive Betts, one of the ring-leaders of the Labour rebellion, said on Tuesday his concerns had been assuaged by a series of concessions and that he would withdraw an amendment to the planning bill that would have forced large infrastructure projects, such as nuclear power stations and airports, to be approved by ministers.
