Orders and output slide at SMEs

Orders and output at smaller manufacturers fell by the fastest rate in more than 20 years during the past three months, according to CBI research.

The quarterly survey of 484 companies employing fewer than 500 people found that 64 per cent had experienced a drop in new orders, while only 13 per cent saw an increase – the largest negative balance since the CBI employers’ body began running the survey in 1988.
