Web could end traditional degree

The increasing popularity of online courses threatens to undermine the traditional three-year university degree, a report warned today, writes David Turner .

The prediction from Universities UK, the vice- chancellors' trade body, underlines the extent to which higher education could be transformed by the web. Experts say electronic learning could make it easier for students to do their degrees in small chunks at a time and place of their own choosing.
