UK inflation drops below 2% target

Inflation fell below the Bank of England’s target rate of 2 per cent for the first time in almost two years last month, reflecting a decline in food prices, in line with economists’ forecasts.

The annual inflation rate measured by the consumer price index dipped to 1.8 per cent in June, down from 2.2 per cent in May.
