Avis cuts jobs as volumes weaken

Avis Europe, the car rental company, is to cut 5 per cent of its workforce after warning that full-year profit will fall short of the level achieved last year.

The group, which operates under the Avis and Budget brands, said the downturn in leisure and business travel had begun to filter down to the car rental sector, with volumes having “noticeably weakened” in the fourth quarter to date.
