Vulture funds circle as debt fears bite

In the early part of this decade, US vulture funds made their presence felt in the UK as several sectors, such as telecoms, media and power, went through restructurings.

US distressed debt funds including Appaloosa Management and Angelo Gordon took equity stakes in Marconi, while Matlin Patterson converted a controlling stake in the bonds of UK chemical company Vantico into a majority equity holding.
