Charges prepared for Madoff lieutenant

The investigation into Bernard Madoff’s $65bn Ponzi scheme advanced on Friday as federal prosecutors prepared to file criminal charges against Frank DiPascali, one of his senior lieutenants.

In a statement, prosecutors said they were ready to file an “information” document spelling out charges once they had obtained a “waiver of indictment” from Mr DiPascali. This enables charges to be filed without prosecutors presenting evidence to a grand jury.
