Yahoo accused of helping China convict journalist

Reporters Without Borders, the Paris-based press freedom watchdog, on Wednesday accused Yahoo, the US internet portal, of helping Chinese authorities to catch and prosecute a journalist convicted of leaking state secrets.

The allegation highlights sensitivities about the role of international companies in China where the internet market is booming but where the Communist government also maintains strict controls on online activity and often imposes harsh penalties on critics and dissidents.
