This all-digital fantasy about a magical train to Santa's North Pole has Tom Hanks playing five roles - thanks to pixel manipulation - including the boy hero. Director Robert Zemeckis tries for an enchanted, painterly look, but the eerily garish visuals look more like Edward Hopper than Norman Rockwell. After umpteen 3D-style rollercoasting sequences (for Imax viewers) we are dumped in a sickly-sentimental finale. Take the children, but they may decide to leave you in the cinema and go off to do their Christmas shopping.
