UK mortgage approvals decline

The number of mortgages approved by lenders fell in July, adding to evidence that higher borrowing costs are cooling the housing market.

The British Bankers’ Association said there were 66,965 loans approved for house purchase last month, 11 per cent fewer than in June and 0.7 per cent fewer than for July 2006.
