Strong chip sales ease threat to sector

The chip sector received a boost on Thursday when the Semiconductor Industry Association reported a 17.5 per cent increase in sales in its latest monthly figures.

The SIA said worldwide microchip sales in January reached $18.3bn, up from $15.6bn in January 2004. They were down 0.5 per cent from December sales of $18.4bn.
