Ofgem cracks down on energy tariffs

Ofgem, the energy regulator, is to crack down on unfair price differences, it said on Monday as it unveiled a new code of practice giving new rights to retail customers and small businesses.

In particular it wants to prevent price discrimination against, often poorer, customers who use prepayment meters to pay bills rather than other payment methods preferred by suppliers such as direct debit.
