Wal-Mart shakes up generic pricing

Wal-Mart, the largest US retailer, is to start selling prescription birth control drugs for around a third of their current prices, in a significant extension of its drive to lower the cost of commonly-used generic drugs.

The retailer has also introduced a radically new approach to the pricing of generic alternatives to branded drugs that have just come onto the market.
